Lethal Lake and Monochrome Magic

Living statues.

I stumbled across this yesterday and was completely captivated. Lake Natron in Tanzania, has such a high sodium and salt content, that it causes a chemical composition that can be deadly.

Any unsuspecting animal which cares to take a dip, will die, calcify and dry. leaving the remains perfectly preserved. While on a pictorial journey, photographer Nick Brandt discovered this effect and captured the images below.

I found the images to be amazing, thought provoking, a little sad but incredibly captivating.
